First story mission of the game, introducing the player to the Black Mesa Research facility and NPC combat. Based off of the setting and designs from Half-Life, the director of the project tasked me with approaching the theme for this level a little differently than the source material. Canonically, the level takes place in the early 2000s, but the other level designers and I wanted to give it a very sleek and cutting edge feel, almost futuristic even. Source's real time reflections helped out especially with the floor shaders to give the impression of slick, clean floors.
